Using Water-Soluble Transfer Sheets on Polymer Clay
Thank you for purchasing our water-soluble transfer sheets! Follow these simple steps to achieve beautiful designs on your polymer clay creations.
Materials Needed:
- Water-soluble transfer sheet
- Light-colored polymer clay (white or pastel shades work best)
- Spray bottle filled with water or access to a faucet with cool, soft water
- Clay blade or craft knife
- Acrylic roller or pasta machine
- Ceramic tile
- Sealer (optional for added protection)
Instructions:
-
Prepare Your Clay
Condition and roll out your polymer clay to an even sheet using an acrylic roller or pasta machine. Ensure the surface is smooth and free of dust or debris. -
Secure the Clay to a Tile
Place your clay sheet onto a ceramic tile, pressing it gently to ensure it is fully adhered. This prevents distortion when applying the transfer. -
Cut the Transfer Sheet
Trim the transfer sheet to your desired size, leaving a small border around the design. -
Apply the Transfer Sheet
Place the transfer sheet face-down (printed side against the clay) on the clay surface. Gently press to ensure full contact. -
Dissolve the Paper Backing
Either spray water evenly over the back of the transfer sheet or carefully run the tile with the clay under a gentle stream of cool, soft water from your faucet. Let the water soak in for about 30–60 seconds until the paper starts to soften. -
Remove the Paper Layer
Gently rub the paper backing in circular motions with your fingers until it dissolves, leaving the design embedded in the clay. -
Smooth and Refine
If needed, use a damp fingertip to smooth any uneven edges or excess paper residue. -
Bake Your Clay
Carefully cut your clay into the desired shape and bake according to the polymer clay manufacturer’s instructions. -
Remove Any Residue After Baking (If Needed)
If a slight residue remains on the surface of the clay after baking, run the cured piece under cool water and gently wipe away the residue using your fingers. -
Seal for Durability (Optional)
Once cooled, apply a thin layer of varnish or resin for added protection and a finished look.
Enjoy your beautifully transferred designs!
Care Tips:
- Store transfer sheets in a dry place away from moisture.
- Test on a small piece of clay before applying to larger projects.
- Avoid over-soaking to prevent blurring or smudging.
